A public entry may help confirm that a person is in custody, but it may not provide every document connected to intake, classification, property, medical screening, mail, commissary, release, or discipline. The jail's open-records policy is the route for specific records in the facility's custody, subject to Kentucky exemptions and any medical-record routing rules. Court charges and court dates should still be confirmed through the court system.

The jail's open-records policy names custodians for non-medical and medical records. Non-medical jail records are routed to Major Dinarte Pimentel at the Detention Center. Medical records are routed to the QCHC Regional Director of Nursing. Email channels receive records requests only and are not for general information or status updates.
A written inmate-record request should be narrow enough for the jail to locate the record. The Detention Center states that it is not required to compile information or answer questions, only to provide responsive public records that it owns, uses, maintains, or retains unless an exemption applies. Bullitt County Booking Records

Mail and Inmate Contact
Mail rules are strict. The Detention Center states that all mail is subject to being read and inspected except privileged mail. Mail must be in a plain envelope with no markings except the address and stamp. Incoming mail uses the inmate's name, Bullitt Co. Detention Center, and the jail address on South Preston Highway in Shepherdsville. Unacceptable mail is returned to the sender.

State Custody and VINE
If a person is not in the Bullitt County jail roster, the next source depends on the custody path.
